Case Studies: The Moore Building
Mixed-use development: apartments/retail
Healdsburg Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA
The clients, Tolbert and Jean Moore, and Bryan Hall of BHSDEVCO, commissioned a computer-based presentation for the initial concept review in January 2001. The project architect was Henry Wix of Wix Architecture, Santa Rosa, CA.
It was essential to demonstrate design integrity and address environmental issues.
Residents and city officials had expressed concern over the mass of the building,
parking and increased traffic flows. The development also needed to complement its
surroundings, which included Art Deco and Victorian buildings. These factors demanded
the creation of a highly realistic and accurate presentation.
Working from photographs and site measurements, we modeled every aspect of the existing
streetscape right down to the graffiti on the mail box. The Moore Building model was
then imposed into this virtual urban context, from which we developed animation sequences,
photo-simulations and still renders.
This series of computer-generated graphics served as a core for informed decision-making.
It also proved highly cost-effective to incorporate the ongoing inputs from the City and
the community into the computer model.
Bryan Hall remarked:
"Thanks again for doing a fabulous job on the Moore Building presentation. I know we
will use your services on all future deals. I would not think about using anyone else,
as I believe that you do not have any competition that could hold a candle to your
finished product."
