Case Studies: Dominican University of California
Science and Technology Center, San Rafael, CA
The University needs to raise $18m to construct and equip a new science facility.
After viewing the Maraizon demo reel at the offices of TWM Architects in San Rafael,
Jacques Charton of the University's Facilities Department suggested that we develop
a computer model of the new building to supplement printed material for the university's
capital campaign.
Working closely with the Department of Marketing and Public Relations, it was agreed to
produce a CD featuring an animated fly-by and walkthrough of the science block. The CD
would be included in the sleeve of an accompanying brochure produced by the Marketing Department.
The computer graphics were combined with text, a custom-written music score and video footage,
including an appeal from the University's President Joseph Fink.
The project architect, Derek Dutton of TWM Architects & Planners, provided a preliminary
design of the exterior, while interior views were modeled from supplied photographic material.
Each item of laboratory equipment and furnishings was individually modeled, and the video
footage was played on a simulated projection screen.
Carol Harbers, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Dominican University of California, commented:
"I was amazed at what Maraizon was able to do. They took a few drawings and created a three-dimensional,
animated building model that viewers could virtually tour.
They are an incredibly creative group. We are using the movie on CD as the integral
part of our fundraising materials for our upcoming science and technology center.
This compelling, portable presentation is an enormous improvement over the
old-fashioned building models."
